Happy New Year!

Will winter ever really arrive? It was 44 degrees today, and again, there is open water in Lake Wicwas, though only in the center of the lake.  Yesterday we saw the first brave souls out on the ice, but they wisely ventured only a few feet, gave the ice the ever-reliable "rock test" and then returned to the safety of land.

We did see many people today ice fishing on other lakes - hopefully everything worked out.  The ice is not  reliable due to all the melt/freeze cycles, even if it is a few inches thick.

No flying squirrels visited today, but we did have a red squirrel this morning who is very happy that there's no snow on the ground, which provides easy picking for dropped bird seed.  But they are always on the lookout for predators!

OK, let's search.

Found one!
